vegan AIDS Ride Sing-a-Longs March 28 & May 16

Dear Veg Friends,

Please consider sponsoring this vegan (me) on the AIDS Ride and please come to

my two vegan AIDS Ride Fundraising Sing-a-Long Parties at 560 Presidio Ave, #4

San Francisco, CA 94115. They will be on Saturday, March 28, 1-5 pm and

Saturday, May 16, 1-5 pm. Please RSVP.

I'm challenging myself to ride my bicycle 545 beautiful miles from San Francisco

to Los Angeles with 2,500 others from June 1-7. We are raising money for the

San Francisco AIDS Foundation to provide vital services to those living with HIV

and AIDS and to work toward the important goal of " no new infections. " . Our

training has started and I can attest to both exhaustion and elation as we add

hours and miles to the route each week. But as I ride, I think about the

critical need for us all to pay attention to what is happening locally,

nationally and globally with this wily disease.

In San Francisco alone we still have 800-1000 new infections every year.

Globally there are 14,000 new infections every day, 95% in developing countries.

The United Nations estimates that, currently, there are 14 million AIDS orphans

and that by 2010 there will be 25 million. These statistics are daunting. Half

of the new infections in the United States occur in people 25 years or younger.

And 30% of all the new infections nationally occur in women. The fight against

HIV and AIDS is far from through. And it takes resources to make a difference.

We must fund the work and refuse to accept that HIV transmission is inevitable.
