On Monday, May 4 at 8 pm, the Peninsula Macrobiotic Community hosts newsletter

editor Gerard Lum and gardener/musician/cook Paul Schmitt, who will preview the

French Meadows Summer Camp which takes place July 10-19 in the Tahoe National

Forest.

Are you looking for a vacation appropriate for all ages this summer? Would you

enjoy dining on three delicious vegan macrobiotic meals daily, with interesting

people? Would you like to experience the grandeur of nature? Are you interested

in learning and experiencing macrobiotics, alongside expert teachers and cooks?

Do you want to have fun and meet people who could become lifelong friends?

If your answer to any of the above questions is yes, join us for the preview of

the camp! Sponsored by the George Ohsawa Macrobiotic Foundation, this year's

camp is the 40th annual held in the majestic Tahoe National Forest. It is

actually the 50th annual Ohsawa-style camp, as ten camps were held in other

locations before settling into French Meadows. Special activities are planned

for this camp!

Teachers include Ronald Koetzsch, PhD, David and Cynthia Briscoe, Bob Carr,

Melanie Waxman, Bob Ligon, Meredith McCarty, Carl and Julia Ferré, Mike and

Maria Chen, Laura Stec, Barb Jurecki-Humphrey, Mary Lore Simmons, Kerry Loeb,

Dr. Paula Barros, and Bob Ruggles. Delicious macrobiotic meals are prepared by

Packy Conway, Susanne Jensen, and staff over wood fires. Also included are

children's activities, campfires, cooking demos/classes, hikes, volleyball,

variety show, and more-for a truly unforgettable experience!

Fees are $890/adult, $450/youth aged 3 to 16; 15% discount for full payment by

April 1, 10% by May 1, 5% by June 1. Partial stays and work exchange are

possible. For more information, call Carl Ferré at 800 232-2372, pick up a camp

brochure at Dinner, or visit http://gomf.macrobiotic.net/gomfcamp/fmsc or

http://gerardtl.home.att.net/flash/summercamp.html.

Gerard, an avid photographer who has attended ten camps, will show photographs

of people having fun at the many camp activities. Paul, a veteran of eight camps

who has worked in the children's program and kitchen, will provide color

commentary. Other campers will share their fond experiences.

This presentation is especially appropriate for those who have never camped. In

1999, a grandmother from Detroit came without any camping experience; her

children and grandchildren thought she was crazy and going through a mid-life

crisis. She has come to every camp since to be with the special friends she

made; her grandchildren now brag about their cool grandmother who goes camping!

Gerard has been newsletter editor since 1990 and currently works as a website

designer. Paul works as a gardener and occasional cook at the Monday Dinners,

and is an aspiring musician and comedian. Join us for a fun evening; donation

optional for this event!

MONDAY GOURMET VEGETARIAN DINNERS IN PALO ALTO

The Peninsula Macrobiotic Community serves a Gourmet Vegetarian Dinner every

Monday (except major holidays) in Palo Alto. This is a full vegan dinner which

includes soup, grain, beans or bean products, vegetables, dessert, and beverage,

prepared by expert natural foods Chef Gary Alinder, our Chef since our inception

in 1987.

WEBSITE: http://peninsulamacro.org - featuring newsletter, dinner menus, and

related information.

DINNER RESERVATIONS: please try to make your Dinner reservations by Monday

morning, 9:30 AM; call 650 599-3320. If it's after 9:30 and you're still

interested in coming, call and leave a number for the manager to call you back

if there is space. It is not necessary to reserve for the After-Dinner

presentation.

TIME: dinner is served at 6:30 pm every Monday except major holidays; the

after-dinner presentation (once per month) starts at 8 pm.

PRICE: $15 for Dinner (occasional special dinners are priced higher), $5-10

donation suggested for after-dinner presentation (usually once per month)

LOCATION: The First Baptist Church, 305 North California Avenue at Bryant, Palo

Alto, 1/4 mile East of Alma and the California Avenue Caltrain Station.

AFTER-DINNER PRESENTATION: each month we feature an After-Dinner Lecture or

Event, described in the newsletter and website. Lectures are usually on

macrobiotic or other health related topics, by a variety of speakers including

macrobiotic counselors, medical doctors, cooking teachers, and people who have

dealt successfully with serious diseases using macrobiotic or similar

approaches. Other events have included performances by folk singers and

vegetarian Chinese acrobats. We have a pass-the-hat policy for our events; we

suggest a donation of $5-10.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: all are welcome at our Dinners, vegetarian or not. The

Dinners are particularly helpful for those who want to eat in healthy ways, but

may not know how to get started. Many who attend may have the same health

concerns you have. Also, choosing locally grown, vegetarian foods is one of the

best ways to reduce your carbon footprint on the planet.

Dinner attendance ranges from 40 to 100, with a full spectrum of ages spanning

newborns to grandparents, including quite a few interesting singles. Come with a

friend or by yourself; singles easily integrate into our friendly group, where

seating is communal. Many long-term friendships have started at a Monday Dinner,

and are renewed every week!

We hope to see you at a Monday Dinner! Please forward this message to friends

who may be interested.
