Guest guest
Forwarding the message. Many of you have already acted on the action alert we sent last week and have Faxed or called in support of sustainable agriculture programs for Fiscal Year 2010. If you are one of them, THANK YOU! If not, there is still time. Because the process for setting appropriations priorities is later in the Senate than in the House, there is still time to influence your Senate appropriator, as listed below in this alert. Please contact him (her) right now, or by next Tuesday, April 28 as he (she) needs to choose priorities by May 1. National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition FISCAL YEAR 2010 $$ ALERT! March 14, 2009 PLEASE WRITE OR CALL SENATOR FEINSTEIN and CONGRESSMAN LEWIS TO PROTECT SUSTAINABLE AG FUNDING!! Thanks to sustainable agriculture grassroots supporters' letters and phone calls, we had major funding victories in both the stimulus package and the recently passed Fiscal Year 2009 appropriations bill. Congratulations on these results! Congress is now turning its attention to funding for next year - Fiscal Year 2010 (FY10). Please immediately write or call California U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and Congressman Jerry Lewis (R-41) in support of two important programs – the Value Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program and Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program. See program descriptions and more information at these links: RMAP and VAPG. Both Senator Feinstein and Congressman Lewis are top agricultural funders in Congress and need to hear from you quickly as they finalize the list of programs they champion for FY10. Please FAX or call immediately, but no later than Friday, March 20! The message is simple: Please ask both Senator Feinstein and Congressman Lewis to fund the Value Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program at $30 million and the Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program at $20 million. Both programs support economic prosperity in rural California. For example, California farmers have received $16.4 million for 77 VAPG initiatives in the eight years of this program! And RMAP will support microbusiness employment, which grew in California by 9.4% during the last recession, while other private non-farm employment fell. It's easy to write or call. Simple letters in your own words are best. (FAXing to Congress is more reliable than U.S. mail.) If you can't write, please call and ask for their aides listed below. If they are unavailable, please leave messages on their voice mailbox with your key points, name and phone number.
