Guest guest
Michael C. has a GREAT suggestions on how much to bring to potlucks... 10 servings is a good rule of thumb. Another is that you bring more than enough to stuff yourself if that is all that you were going to eat. == I love his suggestion, there's a few folks who don't understand That they like to gorge themselves at potlucks but they bring so little to the potlucks.. We all know who those people are! They are folks who are taking advantage of other people kindness and generosity. In summary they eat more than they bring. And at home they usually don't gorge themselves like that. == In the old days, people used to use bring a bag of potato chip or just a liter of soda as their potluck dish. eeeek One time a lady brought a jar of sourkraut for her potluck dish and she was thought that that was enough. She even encouraged people to eat her store bought dish. (which no one wanted to eat) In general , if you buy something from a store, please buy something good and spend at least $8 to $10 or even more! When you go out to eat in a restaurant you have to spent at least $15. ==== Most people make their yummy potluck dishes, spend at LEAST $8 dollars , especially in organic ingredients to prepare their dish. That's not including their time, effort, water, (gas-for some dishes) etc. Plus have to make sure the dish is sanitary. They also have to clean up after making the dish..etc. In general, a lot of potlucks are getting better thanks to a bunch of good good people. It wasn't easy training people but once people realized what to do, I hope people will continue good potluck practices. Good eating! signature: To benefit all: Buy more bicycles, not more cars. (help the bicycle industry not the car industry) It was very clear American Auto makers were making inefficient SUVs/CARs that ONLY the American Market wanted. Everyone knew it, but profits speaks louder than words and/or reason. There's too many greedy people in this world. Why not make closed automobile plants into bicycle making plants. == Best Bicycle Event in SF www.sundaystreetssf.com Next bike ride 24th street in the Mission will be closed
Guest guest
Hi All, My tips are: ask people in advance what they plan to bring otherwise there's the risk of ending up with all desserts and no savoury dishes and ask them to list the ingredients so that nobody gets an ingredient they don't like in their mouths without realizing it or, worse, something they may be allergic to. It also ensures that everything is genuinely veg*an. Once when I had one at my house someone told me he intended bringing a tuna salad! Aaaarrrgghhhh! Well at least I was able to educate him on that but unfortunately he then turned up with pizzas with cheese on even though I'd told him it was to be a vegan event. Best wishes from sunny England, Patricia In general, a lot of potlucks are getting better thanks to a bunch of good good people. It wasn't easy training people but once people realized what to do, I hope people will continue good potluck practices. ---------- Checked by AVG - www.avg.com Version: 8.5.339 / Virus Database: 270.12.46/2143 - Release 05/30/09 05:53:
