Book signing and non-dairy milk tasting to follow Dr. Lanou’s lecture.

Dr. Lanou is an assistant professor of health and wellness for the University of

North Carolina-Asheville (UNCA) where she teaches nutrition, women’s health,

food politics, and understanding chronic disease. Her current research

interests include nutrition for the prevention of chronic disease, how

self-efficacy impacts health behaviors, and nutrition and bone health. She is

also senior nutrition scientist for the Physicians Committee for Responsible

Medicine (PCRM), a Washington, D.C. †" based nonprofit organization where she

focuses her research and projects on efforts to help laypersons and health care

professionals shift to low-fat vegetarian diets for promotion of long-term

wellness. She publishes regularly on the relationship between dairy products

and health concerns. Her most recent paper in American Journal of Clinical

Nutrition delineates the reasons why dairy products should not be recommended in

vegetarian diets. Another paper in Pediatrics titled “Calcium, dairy and bone

health in children and young adults; a reevaluation of the evidence,†shows

that currently available evidence does not support the notion that dairy product

consumption promotes bone health in young people.

Her book introduces a Revolutionary Plan to Prevent Bone Loss and Reverse

Osteoporosis. For years, doctors and scientists have been telling us to drink

milk, eat dairy products and take calcium pills to improve our bone vitality.

The problem is, they’re wrong. Her groundbreaking guide uses the latest

clinical studies and the most up-to-date medical information for preventing

osteoporosis. At her lecture and in her book, you will learn why there is no

proof of dairy’s usefulness, despite what doctors say, and why low-acid eating

and daily walking is the most effective way to prevent bone loss.
