This year, the HSLF has been building on the momentum of Prop 2, taking the fight for animals to the California legislature. As you read this, legislation to protect farm animals, dogs, and wildlife is making progress in Sacramento -– but we desperately need your help to get these bills over the finish line. Please make a special membership donation to the Humane Society Legislative Fund today. When you do, we'll put your gift to work immediately to help pass critical reforms to protect these animals in California: Hens suffering in cages -- A.B. 1437 would ban the sale of eggs from caged hens. Prop 2 banned the extreme confinement of laying hens in cages so small the birds can't even stretch their wings, and A.B. 1437 would require that all whole eggs sold in California meet that same basic humane standard. Dogs languishing in puppy mills -- A.B. 241 would crack down on abusive puppy mills by limiting the number of dogs who can be confined in these large-scale production facilities, where man's best friend is treated not like a family pet but like a cash crop. Dogs being forced to fight -- Two bills to upgrade California's anti-dogfighting laws are on the move. A.B. 242 strengthens the penalties for attending a dogfight, since the spectators fuel this criminal enterprise by paying their admission fees and gambling wagers. And S.B. 318 would allow the forfeiture of property connected with dogfighting. Cows suffering on dairy farms -- S.B. 135 would ban the painful and unnecessary tail docking of dairy cows in the nation's number-one dairy state and send a message far and wide that animals should not be mutilated just for convenience. Wild animals being poached -- A.B. 708 would increase penalties for illegal poaching of wildlife. Will you help protect California's animals? Please make a generous membership donation to the Humane Society Legislative Fund today. With your support, we will continue to build relationships with California's lawmakers, let them know that the animal protection community is behind them, and encourage them to pass these important laws to stop cruelty and abuse. As you can see, we have a lot to accomplish for animals this year. That is why we need your generous membership gift. Your contributions will be put to work immediately to help California's animals by pushing forward our agenda for animals in the California state legislature and California elections. Thank you for all you do for animals.
