Guest guest
Some of you may be interested in these recently released research papers: (info kindly provided by VS Trustee Dr Philip Bickley) Cancer incidence in British vegetarians http://www.nature.com/bjc/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/6605098a.html " The incidence of some cancers may be lower in fish eaters and vegetarians than in meat eaters. " Anatomy of health effects of Mediterranean diet: Greek EPIC prospective cohort study http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/338/jun23_2/b2337 " The dominant components of the Mediterranean diet score as a predictor of lower mortality are moderate consumption of ethanol, low consumption of meat and meat products, and high consumption of vegetables, fruits and nuts, olive oil, and legumes. Minimal contributions were found for cereals and dairy products, possibly because they are heterogeneous categories of foods with differential health effects, and for fish and seafood, the intake of which is low in this population.
