Guest guest
Our SFVS Discount Program directory will be updated at http://www.sfvs.org/discounts.php to include the following: San Francisco Restaurants Alive! Vegetarian Cuisine, 1972 Lombard St. between Webster & Buchanan, SF 94123, 415-923-1052 (www.aliveveggie.com) 5% discount on dine-in or take-out at restaurant only For over 5 years, the Marina District's Alive! Vegetarian Cuisine Restaurant has specialized in organic, raw, vegan cuisine using only the freshest, local and seasonal produce from local farmers. " It's food that's healthy, well-balanced and delicious, prepared as fresh as possible, " says owner and executive chef Leland Jung. Leland hired a traditional Chinese medicinal chef/herbalist to help Alive! develop recipes involving ingredients such as gojiberries, astragalus, and ginseng. He also consulted with a feng shui expert to design the restaurant's interior, which offers a Zen-like atmosphere (in contrast to the bustling atmosphere of Alive!'s booth at the Ferry Building Farmers' Market, named among SF Weekly's Top Ten Street Food at http://www.sfweekly.com/2008-07-16/news/san-francisco-street-food-top-ten/.) When tablehopper's Marcia Gagliardi went on her detox/cleanse this past spring, she included a healthy meal at Alive! writing: " It was a pleasure to be in a restaurant where I could have almost everything on the menu (well, except the organic wine). In my booze-free existence, I opted for the coconut. I swear, I went wild for my fresh coconut juice, such a tasty treat. The carrot-orange-ginger combo was another vibrant winner. The appetizers were good, like the flaxseed flatbread with cashew cream, tomatoes, and avocado ($12). . . . The maki roll with a sunflower seed miso pate, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms was excellent—it almost had the texture of imitation crab inside. " Broowaha reviewer wrote: " The restaurant's modern Zen dining room and hidden urban garden made us feel supremely comfortable almost instantly. The knowledgeable and very professional wait staff at Alive! are true followers of the raw food movement, but they aren't pushy about it—they know their stuff and can answer any and all of your inquiries about the food; but only if you ask, which is nice. Sometimes I like to be educated about what I'm consuming, and other times I just want to be left alone to eat it without a narrative. " http://www.broowaha.com/article.php?id=4732 Alive! was selected as Best Raw Food by SF Weekly. http://www.sfweekly.com/bestof/2007/award/best-raw-food-563243/
