Guest guest
Forwarding the message. Welcome to the Neighborhood September 2009 ORGANIZE YOUR OWN "WHERE WERE YOU IN '89?" BLOCK PARTY - GRANTS AVAILABLE! October 17th, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake. Thousands of people in the Bay Area will remember this moment with one question: "Where were you in '89?"To leverage this significant date to build better prepared neighborhoods for the inevitable earthquake, the City and County of San Francisco is producing The Big Rumble, a week long series of events running from October 12th - 17th to raise awareness of the importance of disaster preparedness. One exciting component of The Big Rumble is the "Where Were You in '89?" Block Party initiative. This is your opportunity to participate in this major regional event. The Big Rumble has worked closely with San Francisco SAFE Inc, The American Red Cross, the Neighborhood Empowerment Network, and the Department of Parking and Traffic to help you produce a one-of-a-kind fun filled day for your community. The Big Rumble is giving grants to "Where Were You in '89?" block party hosts to help cover some of the permitting fees associated with producing a block party as well as the cost of the required barricades. All block party applications (for street closure and grants) are due by Wednesday September 23rd at 5pm. We encourage you to register immediately and get your toolkit by visiting the Where Were You in '89? website. As you know, October is one of the best times of the year to get outdoors and spend time with your neighbors. We hope you will take advantage of this exciting community building opportunity.Good luck! The NEN Team Sign up for daily NEN updates on Email Marketing by Neighborhood Empowerment Network | 1 Dr. Carlton B.
