Welcome to the Neighborhood September 2009 THE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE GRANT AND YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD: A PERFECT FIT?Is there a green space, gathering place, or a piece of public art that your community would love to have? If so, the City and County of San Francisco's Community Challenge Grant Program (CCG) could be for you.The CCG gives matching grants to local residents, businesses, non-profits, and other community groups that want to work together and take the lead in making physical improvements to their neighborhoods. Grants range from up to $10,000 for small projects and up to $100,000 for large projects.Lanita Henriquez, Program Manager for the CCG, explains more to NENtv's Adam Greenfield here. "Over the years CCG has funded so many innovative and creative projects throughout the City. To witness the commitment and hard-work groups demonstrate is extremely gratifying and exciting", says Lanita. One project is the amazing Cohen Alley, located in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood. With CCG funds, the Alley has been transformed into an urban paradise of towering murals, beer-keg water features, and vegetable-producing plants, all produced by local artists and huge community support. Sample Cohen Alley below and explore more images here. There are two CCG application periods every year and the current application ends September 30th. Your community could be a perfect fit so visit the CCG website, find out more, and discover what previous projects got the green light.Good luck! The NEN Team Sign up for daily NEN updates on Email Marketing by Neighborhood Empowerment Network | 1 Dr. Carlton B.
