Last night, November 7, 2009 Planet Raw had a much anticipated opening in in the DVC Plaza in Pleasant Hill. I was there with a friend who had never dined raw before and did not know what to expect. The menu had several great sounding selections. I started with a fresh coconut drink out of the shell and then we decided on the meatless meat loaf and zucchini pasta. Kathryn was surprised that the pasta was cold which gave me a chance to explain the concept of using 106 degrees or less to ensure the retention of the nutrients in the food. Carol Brotman, the talented raw chief, did a masterful presentation with ground herbs decorating the plates anywhere the onion pockets, skinny slices of potatoes or beets allowed enough space. Kathryn was surprised at how full she was (we both practically CLEANED our plates, leaving a few bits of ground herbs that we would have had to lick off the plates if we wanted to polish them any more than we already had). She commented later that she intends to bring her son and his girlfriend to dinner at Planet Raw sometime soon. Yes! Another three omnivores get to experience 100% organic raw food.

Valerie Loe, the hostess at Planet Raw (and Chief Carol's sister) invites you to check out their website www.planetraw.com for daily menus. They are open seven days a week from 11 AM until 9 PM for lunch and dinner and will be opening for breakfast soon as well. Valerie glowed as she talked about her intention to have "story time" for Moms with their kids before school and a longer term goal of having a play center for preschoolers and Moms to hang out, eat and learn about nutritious eating.

Planet Raw is located in the shopping plaza across from Diablo Valley College at 260A Golf Club Road (formerly Baskin Robbins--oh, John Robbins would love the irony) You may want to call Val (925) 768 2919 or email her at Valerieloe when you are coming with a group as seating is limited.
