DR. WES JACKSON, MacArthur Fellow and President of the Land Institute -

" Tackling the Oldest Environmental Problem: Agriculture and Its Impact on Soil "

Lecture: Not-to-miss | January 25 | 7:30 p.m. | International House, Chevron

Auditorium

Sponsors: International House, College of Natural Resources, Beahrs

Environmental Leadership Program, Global Health and Environment, Center for

Built Environment, Berkeley Institute of the Environment, Wildland Resources

Agriculture is the primary cause of biodiversity losses and chemical

contamination of our land and water. With human population doubling as we

approach the end of the fossil fuel epoch, humanity will soon realize that soil

is more important than oil -- and that soils across the planet are under siege.

Dr. Jackson, who Life magazine predicted to be among 100 " most important

Americans of the 20th Century " , will discuss how to solve this 11,000 year-old

problem.

Admission is free and open to the public.
