The IVU website is the place for you with more than 33,215 files in 1,686 folders. And, we’re happy to have more, as the vegetarian movement grows! ------------------Call for Tax on Livestock

Emissions Livestock should be taxed to reduce the contribution made by their flatulence to greenhouse gas emissions, the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation said in a report that will give anti-livestock campaigners fresh ammunition.Read the entire article from ‘The Financial Times’ at http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/77d87d94-1cf5-11df-aef7-00144feab49a.html?click_check=1 ------------------Food for Life Global Distributes Veg Food in Haiti One group who has stepped up to the task and stands out in the area of food relief is Food for Life Global (FFLG)- the emergency coordination division and Headquarters for Food for Life, the world's largest vegan food relief organization. Food For Life started in 1974 when an acclaimed elderly Indian guru, Swami Prabhupada, implored to his

Yoga students to never let anyone within a 10 mile range of his ashram go hungry. Food for Life is now active in over 50 countries and serves over 1,500,000 healthy vegan meals a day. Due to their diligence in South Africa, they have gotten acclaim from Nelson Mandela and have been written up in the press all over the world. Though the organization is worldwide, the main headquarters is based here in Potomac, Maryland. Food for Life is now working in Haiti in conjunction with larger organizations such as the Red Cross, Care, and they have partnered with the Indian military to provide a safe base to distribute vegan meals in Port-au-Prince. Food, supplies and transportation costs are high and Food for Life Global is really asking for help. International director Paul Turner states: “Your donations are still crucial at this stage of the development, and we sincerely thank all who have already come forward to support us- Please continue

to give whatever you can and remember: Food For Life can serve more than 100 meals in a crisis like this for as little as $25, So your dollars will go a long way.â€http://www.ffl.org------------------Building IVU’s Links in California Recently, IVU Manager, John Davis, was in California on a self-funded personal trip, but managed to catch up with veg activists and to build ties. Here’s a report.http://www.vegsource.com/john-davis/from-england-to-california.html------------------Why Meat Wastes Water This brochure from Vegetarian Resource Group explains why eating less or no meat helps protect our precious water resources: http://www.vrg.org/environment/water_brochure.php ------------------Survey Asks, Why Are You Veg? Gretchen Chlebowski, a vegetarian activist, has posted the following request:Given what is happening to farm animals, human health and the environment, are you eager for more people to switch to a vegetarian or vegan diet as quickly as possible? If a small action on your part would help determine the most effective way to convince large numbers of people to change to a vegetarian diet, would you be willing to take that action?I have created a two-question survey that asks vegetarians and vegans what motivated them to change their diet (lecture/workshop, brochure, encounter with an animal, etc.). A pilot survey was given to 175 people at a vegetarian festival in Chicago recently, but more surveys are needed in order to get a broader understanding of which promotion methods work

best.If you would like to give this survey to vegetarians and vegans in your area, you can access the instructions here [ http://www.vrg.org/research/VegSurveyGiverInstructions.pdf ] and the survey form here [ http://www.vrg.org/research/VegSurveyForm.pdf ].VRG will post your survey results here[ http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/faq.htm#poll ]. Then those interested in promoting vegetarianism and veganism can review them and consider including some of the high impact activities in their promotion efforts.------------------Upcoming EventsTo view a listing of international upcoming events online, visit http://www.ivu.org/congress
