Guest guest
California's Humane Lobby Day this year will be on Thursday, April 8. More than 200 animal advocates from all over California will converge on the State Capitol for a day that will truly make a difference for animals. This is an annual event sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Please join us for this exciting opportunity to meet directly with your elected officials or their staff about legislation that will significantly impact animals. The day will begin with a welcome from several members of the legislature followed by a brief training on lobbying and an overview of pending animal legislation. We will participate in an exciting rally and press conference to raise up our voices on behalf of California's bears, who are facing threats of an expanded hunt statewide. You'll have lunch with folks from your area, and then head off to the meetings that are being scheduled for each participant (each of us who RSVPs, that is) with your respective Assemblymember's and State Senator's offices. Face-to-face meetings are one of the most effective ways to get involved and make a concrete difference in the lives of animals. We hope you can join us and experience how you can be an effective animal advocate. As the date draws near, HSUS will send (to RSVPed participants) additional information and details about the day, including legislative " homework " to help you feel prepared, along with logistical details (e.g., parking, lunch, etc.). In the meantime, please visit the Lobby Day FAQ page: http://www.humanesociety.org/assets/pdfs/legislation/faq_humane_lobby_days.pdf Carpooling to Sacramento is encouraged and will be widely practiced. For one participant's report about last year's Humane Lobby Day (the morning portion of it), see http://network.bestfriends.org/10106/news.aspx Feel free to pass this information on to others in California who may be interested in joining us. This event is free of charge, but an RSVP is requested to attend, and is REQUIRED in order for you to be able to participate fully. To RSVP online, go to http://action.humanesociety.org/site/Calendar/1698592818?view=Detail & id=101681 and click the " Sign me up " button. The deadline for RSVPing is April 1. -- Mike Sage mksage Santa Clara County Activists for Animals (SCCAA) www.activistsforanimals.org
