Guest guest
I've experienced veganic gardening, and the non-catch-and-release forms of working with gophers take the forms of:Physical, Pheromonal, Animal, and SpiritualThe idea is each one helps a little, some better than others on a case by case basis, and they work pretty well all together. We're going after ecological balance, helping fill the ecological vacuum that the gophers are taking upon themselves to fill all out of proportion. Physical is the placing of barriers around and under your garden, sometimes double or triple strength.Pheromonal is certain plants, herbs, flowers, and balanced soil composition that seem to repel some gophers. For details, there is some research to do, but people in our community's garden claimed partial effectiveness with this method There is some evidence that there is a balance of animals in the garden that dissuade out of balance gopher activity, from different kinds of insects, birds (including guinea fowl), worms, rodents, garden snakes, etc. Finally - and especially usable by people who see the world as energy - cultures have developed a whole range of thoughts, prayers, ceremonies, altars, and means of psychospiritual relationship with the animal world that can create an intention of harmony between the gophers, the people, and the garden as a whole. It's generally about creating a field where all beings feel invited to share the land in a way that works for all. No one of us own the Earth, it belongs to spirit. It is up to all the beings who live in the earth to take care of it. Gardens are places of a strong presence of spirit, compassion, and the goddess side of the divine. Therefore, an agreement among all the beings - animals, plants, soil organisms, and people - that aligns the energies of all these beings in harmony, can be effective and involve creative use of the elements - fire, water, stones, breathing, consciously attuning, meditating, and asking. This comes mostly from my experience living and working at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center. You can learn more about the TOL veganic garden here.
