SCCAA Presents: Getting Political for Animals

Santa Clara County Activists for Animals (SCCAA) is pleased to hold a talk and discussion with Dr. Rich Mc Lellan

When: Saturday, May 22nd from 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Where: San Jose – for details on location, RSVP to: ltornelas

With election season upon us, it is time for us to find ways to become active in the political realm to ensure that we are getting animal-friendly politicians in office and those who aren’t – out.

What will be covered:

Why political involvement for animals is essential and how it unites the goals of animal rights and animal welfare.

Why part-time political involvement is the duty of any advocate who wants to bring about change in human attitudes and actions regarding animals.

What every person who seeks the title of animal advocate should be doing politically.

Lobbying vs. electioneering.

Finding the strength to pick up the " big " paint brush.

About Dr. Mc Lellan:

Rich Mc Lellan is a retired ER physician who became an animal advocate in 1990. After speaking and lecturing for three years he began to see the need for a political-advocacy wing of the movement. To that end

he started the first political action committee (PAC) in the country that was dedicated to electing animal-friendly legislators. He has subsequently worked as a lobbyist, lobbying coalition director and PAC organizer. He is on

the Board of Directors of the League of Humane Voters and Board Chair of the California Chapter.

About SCCAA:

Santa Clara County Activists for Animals is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to reducing and eliminating the suffering of animals, and to raising community awareness of animal issues. Our main focus is Santa Clara County, but we also participate

in campaigns outside the county. We are motivated by compassion — we seek to prevent cruelty to all animals, especially those used for food, clothing, and entertainment. For more information, please go to: www.activistsforanimals.org.
