Guest guest
Dear Fellow Veggies, I stumbled upon a remarkable vegan-friendly business today: Harvest Urban Market and Cafe on 8th Street, between Mission and Howard. ttp://www.harvesturban.com/ It's a huge neighborhood market (not supermarket huge, but really big for what it is) and buffet cafe with seats, modern, clean, tons of light (windows on all sides) with wide aisles, and an astonishing array of organic produce and vegan products. They had an entire wall of soy milks, for example. The clerk was very friendly: I brought organic grapes to the counter that were supposed to be $2.60 a pound, and he told me he thought they were past their prime and he reduced the price to $0.90 without my asking (for the record, I thought the grapes looked just fine). A lot of this area is very skid row (homeless, detox centers, etc.), but this market/cafe is a vegan-friendly oasis, if you find yourself in that neck of the woods.
