Guest guest
Dear Texas Advocates, State Rep. Beverly Woolley has introduced HB 2328 to revise Texas’ animal cruelty statute. The bill will close a number of “loopholes†that have thwarted prosecution of past offenders. Texas prosecutors are frustrated by their inability to prosecute and convict animal abusers because of these loopholes, which are created by vague and inconsistent wording in the current animal cruelty statute. Animal cruelty is on the rise in Texas, but many unspeakable acts of cruelty have gone unpunished due to the ambiguous language of the existing statute. This important bill is now scheduled for a hearing before the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in Austin. What You Can Do - Please visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center to send a letter to the members of the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee asking for their support. - If at all possible, attend the hearing in Austin. You will be asked to fill out a card stating that you support HB 2328—you will not be asked to testify. Click here for more information on attending the hearing. Thank you for continuing to support the ASPCA and the animals of Texas!
