Guest guest
After participating in our Dallas March of Dimes educational leafleting on April 21, here's a fun way to round out a compassionate weekend. Visit Black Beautry Ranch on Sunday, April 22 (opened only twice a year). See below for details. Or, go to http://fundforanimals.org/ranch/whats_going_on/spring07_open_house.htm. Margaret You're Invited to the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch's Spring Open House Jeanette Henderson, Texas artist, with her original oil painting " Mission Espiritu Santo, " one of the works she will donate for the ranch's silent auction. Make your Earth Day memorable this year by spending the weekend of Saturday, April 21 and/or Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch's open house. Located in Murchison, Texas, just 95 miles east of Dallas and 25 miles west of Tyler, you can explore the sanctuary's surroundings, learn about the behavior and care of the animal residents, bid on interesting items at the silent auction, purchase specialty items honoring Earth Day, and even sponsor an animal. Black Beauty Ranch is the largest animal sanctuary in the country. Providing husbandry, feeding, medical attention, and socialization for more than 1,300 animals is challenging and labor-intensive work, so all staff time is devoted to providing this direct care. The ranch gates are opened to visitors only twice a year in the spring and fall. Don't let this opportunity to see the ranch's operations and all the animals pass you by! Walking tours are available throughout Saturday and Sunday with no reservation needed. You can schedule a bus tour in advance by emailing blackbeautyinfo or calling (903) 469-3811. Bus tour times will be 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m. Please provide your name, telephone number or email address; specify the tour day and time you prefer; and indicate the number of people in your party. We will confirm your reservation with a telephone call or email. Something for Everyone... The silent auction will feature unique items including original oil paintings by Texas artist Jeanette Henderson, pottery by Pottersbrown, plane tickets on Southwest Airlines, jewelry by Zeke and Marty, bird house art by Arbor Castle Birdhouses, and animal photography by Walter Larrimore. We expect one item in particular to generate a lot of interest: a weekend for four at Black Beauty Ranch (two nights accommodation, meals, tours of the facilities)! You may bid on silent auction items between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. both days.  See the animals at the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, including Boogey, the zebra and Blue Boy, the nilgai. Both are safe and out of trophy hunters' reach. In honor of Earth Day, living plants which provide food and shelter for wildlife, bird houses made from recycled plastics, and wire art sculptures made in Kenya will be available for sale. The wire art is produced by the Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW), a Kenyan group working to protect animals in East Africa. The wire actually comes from confiscated snare traps, devices which poachers use to trap animals. In this way, the group takes the horrible traps out of circulation and turns them into something positive, and profits from sales generate income for the group. Please consider visiting our “Sponsor an Animal at Black Beauty Ranch tent where you can select an animal to support. Monthly sponsorships help offset the tremendous food and veterinary costs and provide top quality care for our animal residents. Sponsorships make great gifts and memorials, too. Mother's day is just around the corner! The open house will be held, rain or shine, so please come visit and support the ranch’s residents. Admission is free; donations are welcomed. No pets are allowed on the grounds, so please leave your companion animals at home. Children of all ages are welcome.
