Guest guest
Rally for the Horses Join Us at the Capitol on April 17 They just won't take "no" for an answer. The Texas horse slaughter industry attempted to legalize their gruesome business in 2003 by filing legislation. Their bill was defeated. they sued in federal court to stop enforcement of Texas law, but were defeated once again when the United States court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled against their claims, clearing the way for Texas prosecutors to bring criminal charges. The slaughter plants have now ceased the slaughter of horses for human consumption, but have filed a bill (HB 2476/SB 1742) in the current Texas legislative session, which, if passed, would put them back in business. It's time to make our voices heard once again for the horses. Please join songwriter and former Texas Monthly columnist Kinky Friedman, Kaufman Mayor and national horse protection advocate Paula Bacon and horse lovers throughout the state to rally for the horses on April 17, at 12 noon, on the south steps of the Capitol. We expect to have media coverage, so bring friends and family and let's show our strength in numbers. Signs and banners are welcome! The rally is sponsored by Texas Humane Legislation Network, Society for Animal Protective Legislation, the Humane Society of the United States and Habitat for Horses.
