Guest guest
This July the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, one of the cruelest rodeos in the world, will once again brutalize, maim and kill animals in the name of mindless "entertainment". Apparently rodeo thugs sense that their stupid westernized circus is having a tougher and tougher time making it even in cradles of cruelty like Wyoming, so they are looking for back door approaches to bringing people through the gates. This year the Cheyenne rodeo has managed to schedule two acts that caught our notice - rock groups Def Leppard, and Bon Jovi. It's not the first time the CFD Rodeo has had rock music there in an attempt to coax in a wider, typically non-rodeo-going crowd to their waning event. However, the Def Leppard signing is something of a surprise, since a number of members of the band are vegetarians. Guitarists/singers Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell are vegetarians, as well as their producer, John "Mutt" Lange. Phil Collen even made a public service announcement for PETA urging people to go veggie. The dietary lifestyles of Bon Jovi band members are unknown. For some weeks SHARK has been in touch with the publicists of both bands, and we have sent packages including still picture and video documentation. Unfortunately, so far there's been no substantive correspondence from either of the bands, so it is time for all of you to let these rockers know where you stand. At left, despite obvious injuries this bleeding horse was used at the Cheyenne Frontier Days. Please contact each band at the information below and nicely but firmly let them know that you'll never be able to look at or listen to them the same way if they are part of a show whose history is the maiming and killing of untold numbers of animals. The Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo is one of the most brutal and deadly rodeos in the world, as it features both steer busting and the infamous wild horse race. You can see SHARK's photos of the CFD Rodeo at ShameOnCheyenne.com. In 2005, SHARK investigators shot pictures and video exposing Cheyenne's cruelty, including horses and bulls being shocked, and calves, steers and horses injured and killed. Then, last year a Cheyenne reporter named Cara Eastwood wrote a stunning article that graphically exposed not only the routine shocking of horses to get them to "perform" at Cheyenne, but the absolutely careless attitude of rodeo thugs toward their nonhuman victims, and the utter worthlessness of rodeo's so-called "humane rules." Go to ShameOnCheyenne.com to read this groundbreaking article and see SHARK's documentation of rules violations and blatant abuse. An article in the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle exposed the rampant shocking of horses at CFD in violation of rodeo's supposed rules. Yet the CFD still received the "Rodeo of the Year" award by the sanctioning association. Cruelty and corruption pays in the rodeo industry. You may remember that last year Carrie Underwood withdrew from the Cheyenne event after SHARK sent her video and still pictures showing the cruelty of the Cheyenne rodeo, and after many of you wrote letters to her. Even coffee giant Starbucks withdrew its corporate rodeo sponsorship of CFD when faced with the irrefutable images of animal abuse, injury and death during our Buck Starbucks campaign. Now we have an opportunity to try to persuade these two groups to similarly withdraw--cutting needed support to this cruel event, and sending a shockwave through the rodeo world. Def Leppard in particular should be very open to our appeal. Let's hope that Def Leppard's commitment to animals is more than mere words, as was the case with Willie Nelson and Hilary Duff. You may recall that Duff stopped playing rodeos after we sent the Tiger to expose her in her Hollywood stomping grounds, while the last chapters of the Willie Nelson/SHARK saga have yet to be written (yes, that means that the Tiger and Willie will meet in the future). It is extremely important that you contact both Def Leppard and Bon Jovi to urge them to withdraw from the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Encourage them to go to ShameOnCheyenne.com and view the irrefutable evidence of cruelty. The withdrawal of these groups would send a loud and clear message that cruelty is not something that should be promoted nor tolerated. This horse was fatally injured in the moronic "wild horse race" at the 2005 Cheyenne rodeo. We hope that both of these bands are of a much higher caliber than this cruelty contest and that they certainly don't need to lower themselves by performing at such a repulsive event. Furthermore, the money they might make at the rodeo will be nothing compared to the negative publicity they will get, compliments of SHARK, for years to come.
