FORWARD FAR AND WIDE! June 2007/Issue 1 Dear kerri, Egg farm found innocent of cruelty Mt. Joy, a factory farm with three large egg-laying operations (600,000; 700,000; 900,000) was found innocent of cruelty to the million plus hens in its care. Footage gathered by undercover investigators from Compassion Over Killing showed egregious (but normal) scenes - hens impaled on wires, hens stuffed into tiny cages with wire floors, hens unable even to flap their wings, dead and decomposing birds, etc. Somehow, the cruel practices of agribusiness are considered acceptable behavior to the Lancaster County judge who oversaw the case. Lancaster Online What you can do:1) Seek out alternatives to eggs: According to the industry group, United Egg

Producers, 98% of egg-laying hens are housed in battery cages, and no laws govern how cage-free or free-range hens are to be treated. Cut the eggs out and use Ener-G egg replacer, applesauce, or flaxseed oil when baking.2) Write a letter to the editor of Lancaster Online expressing dismay at the lack of prosecution for such flagrant acts of animal welfare violations: neweraLetters Join us at Whole Foods in Sacramento, CA for Vegan Day June 9 For the second year, Whole Foods Market in Sacramento is hosting a Vegan Day and they invited to table at the event. There will also be cooking classes and educational seminars - all FREE! If you are in the area, stop by and say hi! Section 123, a small provision added to the Farm Bill, would prohibit states and localities from banning activities they deem contrary to animal welfare, public safety or health. If this law passed, it would nullify current bans on gestation, veal crates, foie gras and horse slaughter in various states. In California, it would eliminate the future ban on foie gras. Take action now! Cashew Cheese

He's now a "big goat" and spends his days hanging out with all the adults. He loves Harold, the black-and-white Pgymy, the best. Wherever Harold goes, Jeffrey follows; if

Harold is out of sight, Jeffrey will cry for him. It's very sweet! Sometimes, Jeffrey spends time with Aiden and Gwen, the two lambs. But, more often than not, Jeffrey can be seen grazing the hillside with his goat buddies. We're certain he's going to grow up to be a very handsome goat (and he already knows it!) Donate! dined, and however scrupulously the slaughterhouse is concealed in the graceful distance of miles, there is complicity." For those that don't get it, here's a simple test: If you wouldn't do it to your cat or dog, then don't do it to another animal.
