Guest guest
Here’s hoping the NY Times publishes Mark’s letter. JJP Mark Peters [pylt] Thursday, August 02, 2007 1:50 PM Letters NY Times Letter to the Editor (re: A Diet Book Serves Up a Side Order of Attitude; 1 Aug 2007) http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/01/books/01skin.html?_r=1 & oref=slogin Dear Editor, I burst out in laughter when I read Motoko Rich's article A Diet Book Serves Up a Side Order of Attitude on a newly popular book, " Skinny Bitch. " One reader quoted in the article, Laura McGlinchey, said she was surprised to encounter chapters on meat and poultry farming practices. She became so fed up " she didn’t even finish the book. " I read books to become better informed. Why someone would buy a book and then become more close-minded is a testament to the power of cognitive dissonance. Perhaps if Ms. McGlinchey is bothered by the facts she should start making better diet choices, choices that don't have such terrible repercussions. I suspect that what really troubles her is that by reading " Skinny Bitch " she became aware of a disturbing fact: You are either part of the problem, or part of the solution . . . .
