I’m forwarding this message from Michael Budkie of SAEN. NPLW

will not conflict with the AHA Heart Walk demonstration, which is on Saturday,

September 15. Please give some thought to how we might come together to do

something for NPLW. One of the best ways to do this is with an educational demo

– so anyone who wants to suggest a primate research protest opportunity,

please do so. We can get good demo materials from NEAVS’ Project R & R (http://www.releasechimps.org/).

Also check out http://www.animalsvoice.com/ as

Michael suggests. Lots of good stuff there.

Mark your calendars now for

the Heart Walk Demonstration on September 15! More to come soon.

Hello Everyone,

I am contacting you today to discuss two important

issues. The first is National Primate Liberation Week 2007 and the second

is the AnimalsVoice magazine.

Every year Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! coordinates

National Primate Liberation Week (NPLW) in the fall to focus attention on the

abuse of primates in laboratories. Our best estimate

puts approximately 120,000 non-human primates as captives in laboratories

and the breeding facilities that supply them. We desperately need your

help to make this event as effective as it can possibly be.

Therefore, since we are requesting your help with this action, we would

like to give you input into this event.

NPLW 2006 was held October 7th - 15th. Placing

it in roughly the same week this year would put the dates at October 6th -

14th. We could push this one week later to October 13th - 21st. The

only other national event which has a close date is World Farm Animals Day

which is October 2nd this year. There may be other local

events in your area that might have an impact on the ability of

your local organization to participate in NPLW. You may also want to take

into account the calendar of your local colleges as to the best

dates. Please let us know ASAP (preferably within the next 48 hours -- by

Tuesday August, 7th) what your preferences are for the dates for NPLW

2007.

We also want to encourage you to participate in NPLW in

whatever way you feel is most effective for your organization. While many

will use protests, we would like to encourage you to coordinate events that

will generate both the opportunity to educate many people and have a concrete

impact on the laboratory which will be the focus of your attention.

Be as proactive as you possibly can. Take your protest to the offices of

your university's chancellor or president. Demand a meeting to discuss

making real concrete changes to primate experimentation. Focus on events

that bring funding to the laboratory or university (alumni events?). Make

a real difference. You don't need hundreds of people, you do need resolve and

dedication. We will be sending out suggestions for event strategies in

the near future.

Making a real difference for animals, that is our goal for

NPLW. Another way to make a real difference for animals is to support the

AnimalsVoice magazine. This publication provides in-depth coverage

to the issues that mean the most to us. Whether you want information

on vivisection, factory farming, furs, captive wildlife, or any other animal

issue -- the AnimalsVoice magazine is the publication to go to. AnimalsVoice

also has a tremendous website that is a wonderful resource for information on

hundreds of topics. The URL is: http://www.animalsvoice.com/

AnimalsVoice is working very hard to expand their ability to

reach more people and educate more of the public. You can help in this

effective and meaningful campaign. In addition to updating your own

subscriptions, you can also put this excellent educational resource into

libraries, veterinarian's offices, and legislators offices. SAEN has put

AnimalsVoice into our local library, the library of our local high school and

into the office of our veterinarian. We sincerely hope that you can do

the same. The URL for online subscriptions is: http://www.animalsvoice.com/PAGES/magazine.html

Also, if you haven't already done so, please inform activists in your area

about AnimalsVoice. You can place an AnimalsVoice link on your group's

website, or place an ad in your next newsletter.

Or, for more information on AnimalsVoice you can contact

Veda Stram at: Veda

I look forward to hearing from you in the very near future

with your preferences for National Primate Liberation Week.

Thank you for everything you do for animals,

Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T.,

Executive Director, SAEN
