Guest guest
Comment from Vegetarian Network of Dallas member, Karen Seeh. Good one, Karen. Margaret Circus animals II Reader Karen says she was at the circus handing out those animal-rights leaflets. She had this to say: Well, first of all, one should always be concerned when the messenger making his point needs first to insult the other party by calling them "dopes". I was there handing out leaflets this past weekend, and I certainly made sure not to hand the graphic leaflet to anyone who appeared to be under 16 - as I know my colleagues did to. I don't consider myself an ardent animal rights activist, and this was my first time ever handing out leaflets for such an organization. Perhaps I avoid doing so so that I don't have to deal with "dopes" who don't understand what the First Amendment is. Second, these materials are no more propaganda than the pretty ads and stories that the circuses would have you believe. The fact of the matter is that we as consumers are far too separated from the processes that create products and services which we consume. In this separation and drive for efficiency, abuses begin to occur - to human, to the environment and to animals. If I made you stop and think about impacts of your actions, then I am glad. I can't imagine why you would be offended by someone trying to get you to stop and think about this. http://metro.beloblog.com/archives/2007/08/circus_animals_ii.html Got a little couch potato? Check out fun summer activities for kids.

Deliberate cruelty to our defenceless and beautiful little cousins is surely one of the meanest and most detestable vices of which a human being can be guilty. ~William Ralph Inge Cassie
