If I see fur in a store, I ask to speak to the manager. Then, I very politely advise her/him that although I had intended to shop at the store, I can not do so now, as I do not frequent stores that sell fur. Last time I did this, I got lucky. A nearby sales person recognized me and told the manager I was one of her regular customers whom she didn't want to loose. The key is courtesy while addressing the manager.
