Michelle Upchurch's LTE RE: Vick Opportunity to Write LTE About Factory Farming

In response to the mainstream media coverage of the Michael Vick case,

I want to point out the hypocrisy of the average person regarding

animal neglect, inhumane treatment, and insidious suffering. The fact

is that millions of animals live a life of misery every single day in

America.

 

So many people are traumatized and enraged by the dogfighting

industry, of which, the Vick case has shown a spotlight on. For this,

I am extremely grateful. It is way past the time for people to face

reality when it comes to animal abuse.

 

What I want to respectfully point out to all those people is that

animals fattened up for their dinner plates don't live a cushy life

out on the farm. Instead, they languish in industrialized factories

and confined animal feeding lots. They don't die instantly either when

they go to slaughter. Their offspring don't have the chance to bond

with their mothers. Humans treat countless animals with complete

disregard daily, every hour; thousands of animals have endured

suffering in the time it took you to read this letter.

 

Please, America, I'm taking the initiative to remind you that it's not

only animals involved in dogfighting that suffer at the hands of

humans. Use the awareness of the Vick case to take it upon yourself to

do something about the rampant animal abuse that inflicts our world.

After all, there is one thing worse than evil: To bear witness and

choose to do nothing. Denial is not an option!
