Hi all, I got this idea from another member who is sponsoring a goat, one of the goats that were featured in the story about the Eagle Scouts building a climbing device for 2 goats in NY. I thought it was a great idea to directly help a farm animal in need. Farm Sanctuary has an adopt-a-farm-animal project where you can sponsor an animal (or however many you like) that needs help and love. I feel like Sally Strothers here, but all these rescued animals need help, and yes, they will send you pics, info and updates on your "child". For a less than fraction of a cup of Starbucks a day, you could change the life of a factory farmed animal lucky enough to wind up at FS. Kidding aside, please help. I am sponsoring a rescued foie gras duck and a couple of these

chickens they just found and can't wait to get their information. If you can, please help an animal or bird live a loving, healthy and free life. Contact Cyndy at croseman. Thank you! The girls are in pretty bad shape, but we're going to go ahead and get pictures and then send you a new one in a couple of months so that you can see how well they are doing in a loving atmosphere. The following is part of a press release that is going to issued: Four of the chickens brought to Farm Sanctuary’s New York

Shelter were found abandoned in a vacant lot near a Brooklyn market. Given the high volume of animals coming and going from the businesses, escapes are common and birds can be found wandering nearby streets. Most of the remaining birds are spent layer hens, discarded from the egg factory farming industry when their production dropped off. New York City’s live markets are frequent destinations for “spent” hens, who arrive near death and are sold for a few dollars.

Upon their arrival, the 30 chickens were given medical attention. The birds were covered in lice, had overgrown nails and some had injuries to their wings and feet. One will most likely lose a wing due to an infection left untreated. Again, thank you. Whoever needs the help, it doesn't matter, only that they are safe from the horror of the farm. Bless you for taking them in. How did you get them?Cyndy Roseman-Puccio <croseman wrote: Dear Shannon, Thank you so much for your

support. I am, also, very eager to get you started; however, we just received a new group of layer hens so, if you don't mind waiting a bit, I'd like one of them to be your sponsored chicken. Is that all right with you? I can go ahead and send your duck next week, though. Let me know.
