This is in Australia, but still. KUDOS TO THEM! Telstra bucks sponsorship over rodeo cruelty fears Posted Wed Sep 19, 2007 11:01am AEST Updated Wed Sep 19, 2007 11:08am AEST Map: Corryong 3707 Organisers of the Man from Snowy River Festival at Corryong, in north-eastern Victoria, are reeling after losing their major sponsor because of a rodeo event. Festival chairwoman Sandra Beirs says Telstra told her on Friday it would not support the next event, to be held near the New

South Wales border in April 2008, after six years of support. Ms Beirs says the board met last night and is looking to get new sponsors. She says it is a big blow because Telstra put $20,000 into last year's Corryong bush festival. "Telstra CountryWide in Albury-Wodonga worked very hard to help us," she said. "[Regional manager] Andrew Cottrill and Robert Rutledge have been a very big support. "Andrew in particular has been a help for a long time but unfortunately they can't go past their Telstra corporate policy, so their hands were tied." Mr Cottrill has confirmed sponsorship has been withdawn because of animal cruelty concerns, as well as the danger that rodeos pose to humans. He says the telco is looking to sponsor something else in the Corryong area. "Think occasionally of the suffering of which
