Monthly Leafleting Alert: Animals in Labs Kevin Nealon’s Vegetarian Testimonial Burton Stops Selling Fur! Bambi Butcher Horrors Dear Margaret, Have you ever wondered exactly how many animals suffer in labs? The Animal Welfare Act requires laboratories to report the number of animals used in experiments, but it does not cover the rodents and birds who are used in approximately 80 to 95 percent of all experiments. We can only guess how many animals actually suffer and die each year. Many household products and cosmetics companies still pump their products into animals’ stomachs, rub them onto animals’ skin, squirt them into animals’ eyes, or force animals to inhale them as aerosol sprays. Charities such as the March of Dimes use donations from private citizens to fund experiments on animals. However, animals

differ from humans significantly, making these tests unreliable and dangerous. New research methods—such as computer models, cell cultures, and human studies—are more accurate, less expensive, and much more humane. We hope that you can schedule some time in the coming weeks to hand out PETA’s anti-vivisection leaflets and stickers. Many people are unaware of the facts surrounding this issue, and the simple act of offering them a leaflet can have a huge impact on the lives of thousands of animals. Please click here to fill out the order form, and I will send you 100 leaflets and five sticker sheets. If you can use more materials or if you have a special request, please make a note of it in the additional

request field on the order form. If you aren’t able to hand out leaflets, please take five minutes to watch PETA’s “Testing... One, Two, Three” and “Test of a Civilization” anti-vivisection videos. Afterward, forward the video to everyone in your e-mail address book, and post the videos to your personal Web page or blog.Thank you for all that you do for animals. They truly need you!
