Guest guest
The HSUS Applauds Dallas Dog Burning Conviction, Sentence (Sept. 28, 2007) — The Humane Society of the United States applauds Dallas County prosecutors David Alex and Terri Moore for winning an animal cruelty conviction Thursday against a man who stabbed and torched his pit bull puppy to death in April 2006. Dashawn Brown was sentenced this evening to four years in prison. Named Mercy by her caregivers, the 10-month-old puppy died 10 days after Brown stabbed her, doused her with gasoline and set her on fire. Prosecutors said Brown was angry because the pit bull wouldn’t breed. Consequently, the worst burns were near Mercy’s genitals. The Dallas County jury that heard the case’s heartbreaking details took less than an hour to reach its verdict. “This verdict comes as a great relief to us, and to Operation Kindness, whose members cared for Mercy before she died and who have kept Mercy’s memory alive here in Texas for the last 18 months,” said Lou Guyton , director of The HSUS’ Southwest Regional Office in nearby Fort Worth. “Anyone with the capacity to torture an animal so pitilessly is a dangerous, violent criminal and a threat to community safety.” Moody friends.
