Guest guest
I just had to comment on the negative things said about Vick taking the PETA empathy course. While it is very convenient to label people who do disgusting things - and to feel that they are beyond redemption and that they should spend the rest of their miserable lives behind bars, I believe that people can change. I have seen it. And, if anyone can open the mind of a very disturbed individual, I believe that person might be Ingrid Newkirk. I have heard her speak, and have been absolutely impressed by her moderate voice, her logical responses, and her concern for human and non-human alike. Was inviting Vick to take an empathy course a media ploy? If it was, more power to PETA for having the smarts to spread the word of compassion wherever and however they can. They have learned that manipulating the news is often the best way to get the message out. Being the story is much cheaper than buying a commercial - and PETA is all about getting the most bang for the buck. Unlike most successful non-profits, the salaries at PETA are miniscule - the hours long. They truly walk the talk. That is why I support them. Lastly, while I have complained to Denny's about its support of the circus, the comment was made that we don't eat there because they only serve dead animals. Actually, when I am out of town, I often seek out Denny's. Every one of their restaurants in this country has the vegan Boca Burger on the menu (among, of course, all the carcass entrees). And, while I definitely believe in supporting the veggie/vegan restaurants, perhaps ordering a Boca Burger at Denny's serves a purpose, as well. Just my two cents. :-)
