Premiering Monday, November 19 at 8pm on HBO:"I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA"The film will also air in Canada, on The Movie Network, on Wednesday November 21 and 28 and December 21. Canadians can go to http://www.themovienetwork.ca/details/?46783 to learn more and also to rate the film. The HBO site describes the documentary as, "A candid and introspective look at the extreme beliefs and motives of Ingrid Newkirk, the British-born co-founder and driving force behind People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the world's largest animal-rights organization."PETA has held screenings and is heavily promoting the film. That is because it shares graphic footage and teaches

much about society's treatment of animals. And the PETA promotional effort is despite Newkirk's discomfort with the way she is personally portrayed. The USA Today review of the film includes the following:"The 75-minute documentary left Newkirk with mixed feelings. She hopes that disturbing PETA video of a fox being skinned alive or an undercover look at a turkey processing plant will prompt viewers to choose alternatives to Thanksgiving fare. But on a personal level, 'I found the film mortifying,' she says in an interview with USA TODAY. "'I'm not a morose person. I'm amazed at what (Galkin) left out and a bit uncomfortable about what he put in,' she says. 'I suppose people can make fun of me and deride us for the things we do. All that matters is we get out the stories of what's being done to animals.'" That review is on line at http://tinyurl.com/2ut2oe, with a section for comments at the bottom of the page. Why not add an animal friendly comment

to the discussion? You'll find more about PETA and Ingrid Newkirk's take on the film, including her brief video response to it, on the PETA website at http://www.peta.org/feat/HBO_I_Am_an_Animal/index.aspThat site also has information, for those who do not get HBO, about the upcoming DVD.Also well worth a look, is the HBO page on the documentary. It links for a full schedule, for those who miss the Monday night premiere. (The documentary should also be available "On Demand.") HBO's site includes a trailer, which is different from PETA's trailer, and also an interview with the director. It also includes links to various animal protection organizations -- a nice thing to see on a television station website. Go to http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/iamananimal/index.html Whether or not you are a PETA fan, please let HBO know how much you appreciate their airing a film that looks at animal rights issues, and even airs graphic footage of animal

cruelty. It is vital that the stations learns that the audience is interested in these topics.
