Dear Friends, The year may be winding down, but for SHARK's efforts against rodeo animal abuse things just keep gaining momentum, and we want to update you on these hopeful happenings in this issue. Very good news since our last update is that our campaign against the Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) may become unneccesary. Although things got off to a somewhat rocky start, it looks as if our video proof of what happened to the animal victims of the Hobbs steer busting finals may be sufficient to persuade the BGCA to move in a direction of protecting children from being involved in this kind of abuse in the future. A busted steer is painfully contorted in the most brutal and deadly event in rodeo. Our effort to make an honest company out of Coca-Cola continues, as the company continues to sponsor animal abuse in violation of its own policy, which states that Coke will not sponsor any event in which an animal may suffer physical harm.

YouTube, the site that currently displays over three dozen SHARK videos that are viewed about two thousand times a day, has pulled two of our rodeo exposes. While this is not something we want, it does say something stunning -- that YouTube finds rodeo cruelty so significant that it feels in some cases, it can't be allowed on the site! Finally, the crumbling in the rodeo world that we have told you about for a couple of years is now finally making its way into the writings of even those who are in the industry. The title tells the story -- "PRCA's Fight to Survive." The PRCA is the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, the largest rodeo association in the world. It could have been entitled, "What happens to an

industry that is Cruel, Corrupt and Cowardly." This is a story that has been long in the making, and it shows just how far we have come, even if there is still a long way to go. SIGNS OF HOPE IN THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF AMERICA CAMPAIGN On Wednesday afternoon, final work was in process on this update. The story was all about the launch of SHARK's Boys and Girls Clubs of Abuse campaign, and about how the Tiger video truck was ready to go to the Chicago area office of the BGCA, with the Atlanta headquarters and the Washington D.C. offices to follow close behind. Some Chicago media was interested in the story of children being brought to spectacles, seen in the photo below, wherein animals were brutalized and dragged away to slowly die. And SHARK released a new video for this campaign, which you can view here: Boys/Girls Clubs of America Teaching Kids Violence, Cruelty At the same time, having been a former BGCA member as a boy, I was sorry that we had to move against an organization whose stated mission of helping children is something that we certainly all support. Children from the Hobbs BGCA at the brutal Steer Roping Finals. All of that changed with a call from BGCA Senior Vice President - Marketing and Communications Evan McElroy to discuss the issue. Without going into a lot of detail for now, I will say that Mr. McElroy and I had a very productive discussion. I believe that the BGCA understands our concerns, and I understand some of the challenges the BGCA faces. This campaign would not have advanced as quickly as it has without help from all you. Your phone calls and e-mails have been noticed and are making quite a difference. Thank you very much for everything you are doing for the children and the animals! I feel very optimistic that as the BGCA conducts genuine research on this issue they will be in agreement with us with regard to the inappropriateness of taking young, impressionable children, and

especially at-risk children, to violent events wherein animals may be harmed. Meanwhile, I would continue to ask that you call the President of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Ms. Roxanne Spillett and very politely request that the Boy and Girls Club of America move toward banning all BGCA locations from taking children to rodeos and any other event wherein an animal may suffer harm. Ms. Roxanne Spillett, President, Boys and Girls Clubs of America 1275 Peachtree Street NE Atlanta, GA 30309-3506 Phone: (404) 487-5700 e-mail: rspillett Please advise SHARK of responses you receive from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America regarding this issue. Also of interest to this campaign is our video relating the behind-the-scenes attempts to stifle SHARK's cameras from exposing the lack of medical care for the injured animals: 2007 Steer Busting Finals Busted Big-Time by SHARK, Part 2 As if injuring this innocent steer at the National Finals Steer Roping wasn't bad enough, his tail is being pulled while he is being sledded out of the arena. COCA-COLA EXHIBITS ITS BITTER, CORRUPT SIDE SHARK continues to pressure Coca-Cola over the open violation of its Animal Welfare Policy banning the sponsorship of events that may cause injury to animals. Coke currently sponsors some of the worst rodeos in the US and Canada, and also sponsors the Iditarod dogsled race that abuses, injures and kills dogs. This frightened, injured steer is roughly dragged by its tail onto the sled to be hauled out and thrown in a trailer to slowly die without medical attention.

Coke is trying to blame its bottlers for the sponsorships, but that is nothing but a sleazy attempt to sidestep the issue. Interestingly, Coke is headquartered in Atlanta, as is the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. We were thinking to visit both entities, but now it looks as if Coke may receive our full and undivided attention. SHARK has put up another video on YouTube and CokeCruelty.com exposing the soda giant. As in the case of the video exposing the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, I hope you will look at this video and leave a comment for Coke, whose management are certainly keeping tabs to see how many people watch, and what they have to say afterward. This horse isn't happy about Coca-Cola sponsoring rodeos. We have also made updates to our CokeCruelty.com web site. After the extraordinary season of documenting and exposing rodeo abuses, we are

ready for the full-scale campaign to compel Coke to finally do the right thing, even if it does so kicking and screaming. Please contact Coca-Cola and request that they enforce their own policy and stop sponsoring rodeos and the Iditarod and any other event that harms animals. E. As we mentioned in our last update, one of our most important new ways of using the internet to spread the message of animal abuse is to post our video documentation on the Internet. The website YouTube.com is the largest web posting site today, and SHARK videos on YouTube are getting in the area of 1,500 to 2,000 views per day. That's the good news. The bad news is that a couple of our rodeo videos have been too graphic (reality is not pretty) for YouTube, which removed them. The removal is a very arbitrary process seemingly without an appeal process. We will keep posting videos to YouTube, and will also be posting on similar sites. There's no way that the rodeo people will be able to stop us from showing their abuse and corruption to the world. See our latest videos on YouTube.com! THE CRACK IN THE RODEO MAFIA BECOMES A HEMORRHAGING GASH Ed Knocke has covered rodeos for the Dallas Morning News for three decades. That's a very long time. Mr. Knocke is therefore in a great position to have seen the good times and the bad for the Rodeo Mafia, and as his latest article shows, this is a very bad time for the cowboy wannabes. Knocke's latest article, printed in

Western Horseman magazine is entitled: "PRCA's Fight to Survive." That is a title SHARK investigators and supporters have fought for a long time to see. Knocke's article details the corruption and cruelty of the PRCA in fairly amazing detail, although much more could have been said about the humane issues. For that matter, much more could have been said about the corruption, but between those two issues we'd be talking about a few books instead of one article. Here is an excerpt from his article: The Calf-Roping Debate PRCA also faces constant criticism by animal-rights groups that are pushing for the association to do away with calf roping (or tie-down roping, as PRCA calls it) and steer roping. Steer roping is an optional event, but tie-down roping is mandatory at all PRCA-sanctioned rodeos. When a roper "jerks down" a calf, he's fined $100, but the

penalty hasn't eliminated the issue. "PRCA needs to come down with a hard-and-fast rule," said Neal Gay, the Mesquite (Texas) Championship Rodeo producer. "When a guy jerks down a calf, they need to give him a 10-second violation, just as if he'd broken the barrier." Gay also says using larger calves (weighing around 260 pounds) would help eliminate injuries. Many rodeos prefer to use smaller calves because they lead to faster times and added crowd enthusiasm, and because competitors don't like roping heavy-duty calves. "At smaller rodeos, the cowboys pretty much run the show," said Vold, who produces Cheyenne (Wyoming) Frontier Days. "They tell you what size calves have to be, and if they're too large, the cowboys won't show up." The point of the whole article is that the rodeo world is in big trouble. The Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, injured this horse, seen here bleeding and limping. SHARK now has more than three dozen videos on YouTube exposing rodeo animal abuse, and that number will go ever higher. I envision the day when there will be literally hundreds. Corporate sponsors are getting cold feet. Laws are starting to change. People are hopefully evolving. There is much, much more work to do, but with your support, SHARK is ready for the job. We've brought the rodeo issue from a time not that many years ago when it appeared to be invincible, to now literally being in a fight to survive. And we're just getting warmed up... IT IS TIME TO TAKE THE TIGER TRUCK OUT! Now that the rodeo season has for the most part ended, and it gets dark earlier, it is time to take the Tiger Truck out and show the public the rodeo abuses we have exposed this year. It is looking like Coke's headquarters in Atlanta will be our first target, as soon as we get some funds. Coca-Cola Sponsors Cruel Rodeos, Violates Own Humane Policy Unfortunately, however, we have severely depleted our funds investigating and exposing rodeo during this intense season. It is revolting that corporate sponsors are giving the rodeo industry millions of dollars to abuse and kill animals, while SHARK and other animal protection organizations are struggling to get funding to stop the many atrocities affecting animals in today's society. Deja vu, unfortunately for Coke, SHARK still has the signs for the Tiger Truck "Coke Sponsors Animal Cruelty". Unless SHARK receives some funds, we are unable to hit the streets with the Tiger Truck, and the second Tiger Truck will have to wait. While this will make rodeo and other animal abusers very happy, it is not good for all the suffering and dying animals. Click here to see photos and video of the Tiger in action! Please don't let another moment go by without doing something for the animals. Your support is vitally needed to help us continue our work on behalf of the forgotten victims of rodeo abuse and other cruelty. Find out more ways you can help SHARK on our website HERE.
