The Tuesday, December 11, Atlanta Journal-Constitution carries the Vick sentencing story on the front page. The article, by Bill Ranking and D. Orlando Ledbetter, is headed, "Vick's lies boosted prison time; 23-month sentence: Judge cites fallen Falcon's deceptive answers about dogfighting, pot use."It opens:"Richmond --- Michael Vick only recently owned up to executing pit bulls, but it was too late for his sentencing judge, who threw the book at the fallen NFL star on Monday."U.S. District Court Judge Henry E. Hudson sentenced the suspended Falcons quarterback to 23 months in prison for his role in a dogfighting operation --- a term at least five months longer than what Vick would have received had he been truthful."We learn that after failing polygraph tests while denying he killed dogs, and "after being grilled by an FBI agent for

five hours, Vick finally spilled the truth that he 'hung' a dog." Vick said, "I carried a dog over to Quanis Phillips, who tied a rope around its neck. I dropped the dog."We read that Vick later admitted to actually killing two dogs.About his sentence we learn:"Once in federal prison, Vick can cut his sentence by 15 percent with good behavior. This means he could serve only 19 1/2 months behind bars and could be released in May 2009, a month before his 30th birthday."We also read an estimated tally of Vick's financial losses -- $141,903,173.You'll find the whole article on line at http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/falcons/stories/2007/12/10/vick_1211.htmlor http://tinyurl.com/2z5ol7That page has a poll asking, "What do you think of the prison sentence Michael Vick received from Judge Henry Hudson?"
