Guest guest Posted January 10, 2008 Report Share Posted January 10, 2008 The Humane Society of the United States sued Hudson Valley Foie Gras,alleging the delicacy violates water pollution laws....A federal judge in White Plains, N.Y., began hearings on Wednesdayregarding a lawsuit filed against Hudson Valley Foie Gras by TheHumane Society of the United States more than a year ago.The animal rights group alleges that the company, which produces thedelicacy made from enlarged goose livers is violating federal waterpollution laws by releasing manure and slaughter waste into the MiddleMongaup River in Sullivan County.Hudson Valley Foie Gras is one of the largest suppliers of foie grasto gourmet markets and restaurants in New York City. It has come underattack in recent years from animal rights groups because of theforce-feeding process it uses to artificially enlarge goose livers.Earlier this year, New York State fined the company $30,000 for CleanWater Act violations.
