The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Association ofVeterinarians for Animal Rights (AVAR) announced today AVAR isreorganizing as a division within HSUS, the Humane Society VeterinaryMedical Assn. (HSVMA)....AVAR board president Dr. Paula Kislak said the added resources of HSUSwill allow HSVMA "to organize many more thousands of veterinarians inthe broader cause of animal protection. There are about 80,000veterinarians in the U.S., 3,500 of whom are affiliated with AVAR and11,000 of whom "already are supporters" of HSUS, the statementoutlined.Both AVAR and HSUS expressed frustration with the American VeterinaryMedical Assn.
