Friends of Animals Calls Foulon PRCA RodeoWhen ticket holders arrive to the opening weekend of the ProfessionalRodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Rodeo on January 18th & 19th, they'llbe met by activists and supporters from Friends of Animals protestinga violent spectacle, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. We'll be near the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum entrance (3401Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, east side of coliseum by the parking lot)to hold posters of opposition, and to hand out Rodeo, Bull Riding, andOther Macho Stories of

Domination and Control to rodeo customers onJanuary 18th at 6:30 pm, and January 19th, at 1pm and 6:30pm.These flyers discuss ways in which rodeo "cowboys" bully a lot oftrapped animals for the delight of crowds. In the 21st century, whyare Texas babies growing up to be cowboys? We need more respectfulmale role models!Friends of Animals president Priscilla Feral states, "No one whorespects other conscious animals would body-slam a calf, twist bulls'tails in a chute, or tighten straps around horses' flanks to provokethem to violently buck riders, as a bunch of people look on, hootingand hollering."As is quite obvious in these shows, and as the Professional RodeoCowboys Association's website itself says, the "cowboys" wear thick, metal spurs and use bucking straps to provoke the action needed topresent this image of domination and control. The PRCA's websitelists electric prods as allowable rodeo

equipment. These things wouldbe called instruments of sadistic torture if cowboys themselves wereroped up and tormented with them.Friends of Animals recently held protests of the Professional BullRiders (PBR) when they came to New York City's Madison Square Gardenon January 4th-5th. The winter cold did not stop people from standingon the city street to oppose the violence and exploitation of this so-called sport, as seen through the global media:Agence France-Presse (AFP), a news network covering events from aroundthe world (3 Jan):http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5is4uAqO8sNi-xl1MdVdUfD3Rn1oQThe New York Observer, covering city politics, culture and media (9Jan):http://www.observer.com/2008/yee-ha-bull-s-ball-gardenFriends of Animals' protest now moves to Forth Worth to pose thequestion: Is this how we as human beings should act towards otheranimals? We believe the answer is a resounding no, and we

are on theroad to cultivate a more respectful humanity.# # #About Friends of Animals: We are a non-profit, international animaladvocacy organization, founded in 1957. Our goal is to cultivate arespectful view of nonhuman animals, freeing them from cruelty andinstitutionalized exploitation around the world.
