Terms of the settlement include Conyers’ relinquishing custody of all animals, never being allowed to own or work with animals in the future, and allowing animal control officers to visit her home to make sure she is in compliance with these terms. Read more... Scott Heiser: Man with a Mission Scott Heiser is a man dedicated to justice – especially when it comes to pursuing those who prey on the defenseless. This former prosecutor and elected district attorney in Benton County, Oregon has prosecuted all types of criminal conduct, including capital murder. But it is his passion for holding animal abusers accountable for their crimes that recently led Scott to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, where for the past year he has been the director of ALDF’s Criminal Justice Program (CJP).

Scott paused long enough to talk with us about working within the system, fighting the good fight, and a horse named Georgia. Get a sneak peak of the interview... ** Our full interview with Scott will be featured in The Animals' Advocate, ALDF's quarterly publication for members. Letters Needed to Keep Dog-Skinning Investigation Active Two months have passed since Anne, the three-year-old beagle, was found skinned alive by her Vinemont family in November 2007.

Despite surviving this initial torture, Anne had to be euthanized because she did not have enough remaining skin to complete a skin graft. ALDF’s Criminal Justice Program is offering funds to cover the cost of collecting and analyzing forensic evidence in the case, and ALDF has also offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the offender(s) in this outrageous case of animal cruelty (adding to the more than $35,000 in reward money already offered by local and national animal protection organizations). Take action! Write letters encouraging law enforcement to continue to aggressively pursue this investigation. Despite the forensic evaluation opening up the possibility that Anne's death was an accident, the interests of community safety demand

that the Sheriff continue to investigate this case because any person who would engage in this conduct represents a true threat to people and companion animals. Write to Sheriff Roden and Investigator Montgomery today! SAFE AT LAST Dogs Rescued from Michael Vick Now Safe in New Homes Last Friday, the world had the opportunity to meet many of the dogs once owned by former Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Michael Vick for the first time since they were seized from Vick's dogfighting operation last year. The rescued dogs made their debut back into the world by showing that all dogs, even pit bulls who have been used for dogfighting, are as much individuals as any other sentient being. Despite a life of neglect, torture and abuse while on Vick's property, and then months of confinement while in shelters as the case worked its way through the court system, many of these resilient dogs are now

living in foster homes with other pets and some, with children. Learn more about the evaluation process, their journey to new homes and how they are doing now...
