Our Sponsors IT'S A MOVIE, IT'S A MOVEMENT Winter 2008 www.angrymoms.org Dear kerri, As I travel around the country showing the movie Two Angry Moms, I am struck by how vast and varied America is. The climate, the geography, the people, the culture and the food! My travels confirm that while we do need to set national standards, and yes, we need our National School Lunch Program, we also must address the school food environment as an educational issue on a local level. The film is starting the conversation but we've got lots more work to do. My job for now, is to continue the effort to

get the movie screened in every school district in America (and beyond - I hear from angry parents all around the world!). To that end, we've put together a shorter, "Conference Version" of Two Angry Moms, we've added a multiple screening license for local school districts, and we're offering discounts on screenings to organizations that want to team up with us. Read up on the reason behind the beef recall (143 million pounds) in a message from environmental activist Jayni Chase, and meet our Angry Mom of the month, the accidental food allergy expert, Robyn O'Brien. Let's keep our grassroots growing! Amy Kalafa CONFERENCE EDITION AVAILABLE NOW! By popular demand, we've created a sixty-minute version of Two Angry Moms. MY BEEF WITH SCHOOL FOOD Just prior to the February 17 recall of 143 million pounds of ground beef (38 million went to the school lunch program), I received an email from celebrity activist Jayni Chase, pointing me to the Humane Society's video exposé of the killing floor at the Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Company in Chino,

California. The footage, low-resolution and fuzzy, is nevertheless gruesome, enhanced by the undercover reporter's narration detailing the abuse of the animals. Here is a special message to angry moms (and dads) from Jayni Chase:This is a hidden truth. Please watch the video and learn. Then help spread the word. Humane Society Video. ALL parents and children have to stand up and shout out their protests against these practices. Our schools are NOT working in our children's best interests if they are continuing to purchase the cheapest, least healthy foods and serving them as lunch. We can and we must change this! Jayni Chase Amy's Blog About the Beef ANGRY MOM OF THE MONTH: Robyn O'Brien Mother of Four Becomes Leading Expert on Additives and Allerigies Despite spending most of her life believing food allergies were some kind of psychosomatic fabrication, Colorado mom Robyn O'Brien was forced into acknowledging otherwise when she became the mother of four children with adverse reactions to various foods. Motivated by the desire to better

understand how to keep her kids healthy, O'Brien began researching the ever-tangling history of food allergies, synthetic ingredients and the ties between the industrial food complex and the U.S. government. Last year, O'Brien launched what has now become one of the most popular web resources for parents of children with food sensitivities. The fact that major media outlets, such as ABC, CNN and the New York Times, see O'Brien's work as an important news story is no mystery considering one out of every three American children has allergies, asthma, ADHD or autism. Speaking about O'Brien's single-minded research, noted activist Erin Brockovich said of her new friend and colleague "Frankly, I think it takes a little bit of being crazy to make a difference in this world." There is no difference there between a cat or a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man's own advantage. - Sri AurobindoA man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral. - Leo Tolstoy
