Guest guest
I am sharing my LTE (below) out of solidarity with my fellow AR activists and to hopefully stimulate others to write, as well. I will post VegNod member's LTE on our message board whether or not DMN publishes, if you will send to me. Thanks to all who take a few minutes to write and speak for the animals. Margaret ************************************** I thank the Dallas Morning News and Rod Dreher for his timely op- ed " Meat to a Higher Purpose. " It is essential to the survival of our species and the planet that we have this dialogue and resolve it without delay. We must heed the urgent warning issued in the 2006 United Nations' study " Livestock's Long Shadow, " which irrefutably identifies animal agriculture as the largest single contributor to pollution and global warming. However, I found Mr. Dreher's bemoaning our " moral and spiritual lassitude and spoiled child ethic " to be disingenuous. He states he is aware of the sin humans commit when we support the almost unimaginably horrific abuse of animals in factory farms, which is how the vast majority of meat is brought to market. But, he goes on to say he will " madly " go back to eating meat on Easter, thereby ignoring the sin we commit when we take the life of an animal, who loves life and fears death, just as a human does. To kill a sentient being simply so that one may savor the taste of its flesh, which we euphemistically call bacon, with one's eggs is in no way morally responsible to my mind. Thank you.
