Guest guest
Below is the response from one of the 200+ emails I sent to Iditarod sponsors, etc in relation to the earlier email (below) I shared from helpselddogs.org. They were kind enough to give me further clarification as I followed-up with them from this particular sponsor's response. I used the form letter and personalized it with my boycott statement. Interesting response. ******************************************************* Thanks for writing to Iditarod supporters. The Iditarod certainly is to blame for the dog death. The Iditarod refuses to regulate where snowmachines can go: http://www.helpsleddogs.org/remarks-ruleproblems.htm#unprotected By the way, the Iditarod announced a third dog death today. Margery In a message dated 3/12/2008 4:04:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time,: I emailed your letter with my added comment to this sponsor listed below that was on your website and received their reply I am forwarding to you. Can you elaborate please? You cannot blame this one on the Iditarod, so please refrain from it or you may face a slander suit by insulting Alaska's state sport! Jlona-Maria Richey - [partial letter supplied here] Monday, March 10, 2008 11:16 AM 1st dog death in Iditarod Dear Iditarod Supporters, Sponsors, and Participants: I understand the 2008 Iditarod has had its first dog death. As such, I plan to completely boycott and disengage from all related sponsors, supporters and participants in this event. I will also share the same with any and all citizens and community leaders, etc known to me in particular in Texas and beyond. Please end your organization's support of the Iditarod dog sled race. For the dogs, this event is a bottomless pit of suffering. What happens to the dogs during the Iditarod includes death, paralysis, penile frostbite, bleeding ulcers, bloody diarrhea, lung damage, pneumonia, ruptured discs, viral diseases, broken bones, torn muscles and tendons, sprains, torn footpads and anemia. At least 134 dogs have died in the race. No one knows how many dogs die after this tortuous ordeal or during training. For more facts about the Iditarod, visit the Sled Dog Action Coalition website, http://www.helpsleddogs.org . --- "sofiawolf13" <sofiawolf13 wrote: > NEW: Our updated list of organizations promoting the Iditarod> > This page lists the year 2008 Iditarod sponsors, and promoters as well> as individual musher sponsors.
