Rodeos! About a month ago, SHARK sent out an e-mail update asking all of you to contact Marriott about its sponsorship of the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo. A link to the rodeo website reveals the financial level of the sponsors, and Marriott was considered a "Major Sponsor" which means an amount of $50,000 - $100,000 was given to the rodeo. SHARK is thrilled to announce that after after reviewing SHARK's Denver rodeo video, other SHARK rodeo videos, and hearing from you, Marriott has stated that they will not be supporting The Northwestern Stock Show and Rodeo next year. We were also assured that Marriott is

not underwriting or supporting any rodeos. See video Marriott has joined Choice Hotels in making the

ethical decision not to support animal cruelty, injuries and deaths. These are two principled hotel chains that you can enjoy with a clear conscience. Horse double-shocked at the NWSS & Rodeo

THANK YOU to all of you that contacted Marriott about their sponsorship!! Your quick action made this campaign a fast success! How to be more effective when a rodeo comes to your town Send out a press release about the rodeo coming to your

town, especially if it is one that SHARK has exposed for shocking horses, animal abuse and deaths, etc. With all the recent bad publicity about rodeos SHARK has busted, showing that animal cruelty, injuries and deaths are routine occurences in rodeos, more media are becoming interested in the issue. Contact your local reporters to see if they will cover the issue. Offer to go to the rodeo with the reporters/photographers and help them spot the the shock prods, tail twisting/raking, etc., since most don't know what they are looking for. Shareholder's Meetings are a great opportunity to stop a Company's support of animal cruelty and deaths Many shareholders aren't aware that companies they have stock in are sponsoring events like

rodeos, that abuse, injure and kill animals. If you or someone you know own stock in one of the companies listed on our Corporate Thugs website, let SHARK know. Better yet, plan to attend the Shareholders' Meetings and bring up the Company's support of the animal abuse and deaths like shareholder Barbara Bierbaum did at a Starbucks Shareholders' Meeting. Barbara's impressive and courageous action helped bring the Starbucks campaign to a successful resolution. City, UT on April 25 - 27, 2008 Confronting Cruelty is a free three day public conference for anyone who cares about animals. This conference is for sharing knowledge, public education, networking, protecting yourself when acting for the animals, discussing strategies and tactics and energizing the community to fight against animal cruelty. Steve Hindi along with other nationally recognized speakers will cover a wide range of animal protection issues along with videos, discussions, workships. Some of these topics will include: * Increasing penalties for cruelty to companion animals and passage of Henry's Law * Abuse of animals in labratories and factory farms * Harmful effects of climate change and environmental catastrophes for people, animals and ecosystems * Strategies to fight the pet overpopulation crisis * The controversy surrounding "The Green Scare" and more militant forms of animal activism Horse in rodeo trying to escape its tormentors For more information, go to: confronting cruelty Pennsylvania Activists: Stop Caged Animal Shoots Pigeon Shoots Triggered the Creation of SHARK As many of you know, it was about 20 years ago when, then hunter/fisherman now SHARK President, Steve Hindi stumbled upon the Hegins pigeon shoot in Pennsylvania that turned his life around to helping animals. The slaughter of thousands of nonhuman victims and the involvement of children in the horrific killings, was too much for Steve to tolerate. With the help of a few friends, Steve stopped Illinois pigeon shoots, and rallied national support against the Hegins pigeon shoot. He went to pigeon shoots all over Pennsylvania, and graphically video documented the abuse. Pennsylvania courts are now dealing with pigeon shoots, with Steve's documentation as

part of the evidence in the case. Legislation has been introduced in both the Pennsylvania House and Senate (H.B. 2130/S.B. 1150) to ban killing animals launched from box traps or tied in place. This legislation would effectively halt pigeon shoots in

Pennsylvania and would prohibit events like the recent live turkey shoot. We need your help to propel the bill forward! TAKE ACTIONPlease make brief, polite phone calls to your state legislators today and urge support for H.B. 2130/S.B. 1150 to end the use of animals launched from traps or tethered for target practice. This type of animal cruelty simply should not be tolerated. Click here to look up your state legislators and the

office phone numbers. Rodeos Are Feeling the Heat of SHARK and the Media Your support is vital in helping SHARK keep the pressure on rodeos,

their corporate sponsors, the media, and law enforcement officials. Without pressure, changes for the animals won't happen and we have come too far to let up now. Kindest Regards, Steve Hindi and Your SHARK Team "Kindness and compassion towards all living beings is a mark of a civilized society. Racism, economic deprival, dog fighting and cock fighting, bullfighting and rodeos are all cut from the same defective fabric: violence. Only when we have become nonviolent towards all life will we have learned to live well ourselves." - Cesar Chavez Forward email SHARK | Showing Animals Respect and Kindness | PO Box 28 | Geneva | IL | 60134
