Tell TNT What You Think of Its Ringling Reality Show IDA Home | Action Center Home | Donate | Sign Up! | Tell a Friend Tell TNT What You Think of Its Ringling Reality Show Dear Margaret Morin, Please Help IDA Stop TNT's Circus "Reality" Show Promoting Ringling Bros.! Recently, cable station Turner Network Television (TNT) announced plans to run a reality show featuring notorious animal abusers Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. TNT cameras intend to follow Ringling as it travels from city to city, but you can bet that one reality—the animal abuse—will be kept hidden from viewers. This show will be

nothing more than a lengthy Ringling commercial. Viewers surely won't see the behind-the-scenes abuse of elephants, tigers, horses, and other animals. Send a letter to the following decision maker(s): TNT Below is the sample letter: Disappointed in TNT Decision to Promote Ringling Dear [decision maker name

automatically inserted here], Please abandon all plans to create a reality show based on Ringling Brothers Circus. Although the circus presents the illusion of family fun, the reality is anything but. Please consider Ringling's history of animal abuse, which is currently the subject of a federal lawsuit. Just a few of Ringling's recent U.S. Department of Agriculture citations include causing trauma, behavioral stress, physical harm, and unnecessary discomfort to two elephants; failure to provide veterinary care to a lame elephant, an elephant with a swollen leg, and a camel with bleeding wounds; improper handling of dangerous animals; and failure to maintain the zebra enclosure. Just as it does with the public, Ringling will no doubt hide its animal abuse from your cameras. Please do not promote animal abuse. I urge you to reconsider your reality-show promotion of Ringling. Remind them that after learning of the abuse inherent in animal circuses, major corporations like Denny's, Lukoil, General Mills, Burger King, Liz

Claiborne, MasterCard, Visa, and Sears, Roebuck & Co. ended their promotions of circuses like Ringling and UniverSoul. In recent years, PETA has caught on videotape that Ringling handlers were aggressively using bullhooks on elephants, a Ringling trainer inflicted a bloody wound behind an elephant's ear, and lame elephants were forced to travel and perform.
