Dear Margaret, Animal abusers—whether individuals, corporations, or governments—try to operate very quietly so that the cries of animals and the voices of compassionate people will not be heard. That's why, for more than 25 years, PETA has been making sure that those in positions of power hear from caring people like you that animal abuse can never be tolerated or ignored. Your voice—along with the voices of thousands of other people—is powerful and essential for animals who are tortured, exploited, and killed. Today, I need you to speak up for baby harp seals, hundreds of thousands of whom will soon be slaughtered in the annual Canadian seal hunt. PETA is pressuring the Canadian government to permanently ban this inexcusable mass killing, but we need your help. The government is feeling the pressure. It has just announced that it will require the babies' throats to be cut before they are skinned, but that is still totally inhumane! Imagine how the mother seals will feel when they watch that extra bloodbath from their babies. By taking action today, you will help us push the government further and stand up for countless vulnerable animals. 1. Sign PETA's global

petition to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper urging him to end Canada's sponsorship of this atrocity. 2. Make a generous online donation to help PETA sustain our anti-fur campaign for as long as it takes to protect Canada's baby harp seals. The cruelty and violence of the Canadian seal hunt are staggering. Masses of seals only days or weeks old have their heads bashed in with clubs. Then they have their skin torn off their bodies—often while still conscious. Finally, they are left to die on the blood-stained ice, while sealers sell their skin and the fur industry eventually lines its pockets with the profits from the slaughter. It is carnage on

an unbelievably huge scale. It is critical that we stop this cruel slaughter—forever—in order to save seals and stop the abuse of animals for fashion. Already, we have won protections for millions of animals killed for their skin from some of the giants of the fashion industry. Most recently, Cole Haan (Nike's parent company), which operates 155 stores in the U.S. and Japan, announced that it is going completely fur-free! If PETA can compel leading designers and companies like Cole Haan, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren to stop using fur, we can persuade the Canadian government to end the annual seal hunt. But it is going to take unrelenting pressure from activists like you from across the globe. Help us raise an international outcry to protect Canada's harp seals by signing our petition to the Canadian government. Thank you for

your compassion. Very truly yours, Ingrid E. Newkirk President P.S. Canada's annual seal hunt is one of the bloodiest animal slaughters on the planet, and it continues only because the Canadian government allows it. Thousands of seals swimming in Canada's coastal waters are at risk—and compassionate people like you are their only hope. This e-mail was sent by: PETA 501 Front St., Norfolk, VA 23510United States
