I'm certain that the sophisticated animal advocacy community reads the funny pages daily, just as I do. However, in case anyone has missed it, check out the "Over the Hedge" comic strip from 3/3/08 through today. The urban wildlife characters in the strip have found a homeless, sweet, trusting pit bull puppy, whom they name Steve. RJ, the street smart raccoon, uses human's irrational fear of pit bulls to steal food. For instance, RJ gets sweet, little Steve to prance into a backyard cook-out, causing the people to flee and leave their food behind. But, RJ's plans go horribly wrong when Steve is captured by an animal control swat team and put into ultra-high security locked confinement in the pound. Today, RJ calls in a favor

and secures the services of Barack Obama to save Steve from euthanasia. If only this were a real life solution for all those thousands of sweet pit bull dogs, who die every day in the pound simply because of their breed. Did you know that Pit Bulls generally score higher than Golden Retrievers in temperament tests (source: www.atts.org)? Gentle Reminder: Please actively oppose breed specific legislation and city codes. This link will take you to comics.com where you may view all strips since 3/3/08.http://www.comics.com/comics/hedge/index.htmlI copied and pasted some of my favorite strips below. Good reading. The strip stars RJ, a mischievous raccoon, and Verne, his sensitive best-buddy turtle. A couple of boisterous "Boyz in the Wood," RJ and Verne make a hilarious pair as they fight to save their wooded wonderland from the evils and temptations of encroaching suburbia... but end up becoming distracted by wide-screen TVs, discarded fast food, comfy lawn furniture and the fun of wreaking havoc with the local homeowners’ association.
