United Poultry ConcernsApril 17, 2008United Poultry Concerns (UPC) has put up 220 Display Cards stating “Life Can Be Beautiful – Go Vegan!” in Metrorail Cars throughout theWashington, DC Metropolitan Area. The cards, placed by CBS Outdoor torun from mid-April to the middle of May, show a man expressing kindnessto a rooster at UPC’s sanctuary in Virginia. The image can be viewed athttp://www.upc-online.org/respect/index.html.The Metrorail ads are part of United Poultry Concerns’ InternationalRespect for Chickens campaign. Launched in 2005, International Respectfor Chickens Day, May 4th, is a project designed to celebrate thedignity, beauty and life of chickens and to protest against thebleakness of their lives in farming operations. UPC urges people to do

apositive ACTION for chickens on or around May 4th. May is InternationalRespect for Chickens Month.Ideas include leafleting on a busy street corner, holding an officeparty or classroom celebration, writing a letter to the editor, doing aradio call-in, tabling at the local church, school or shopping mall,hosting a vegan open house, or simply talking to family, friends orstrangers about the plight (and delight) of chickens and how people canhelp them.United Poultry Concerns will hold a peaceful demonstration andleafleting at the National Mall in Washington, DC on Sunday, May 4th(permit pending) and across from the White House on Thursday, May 8thfrom Noon to 4PM both days.
