Dear Friends, Since our press conference yesterday to discuss Matchbox Twenty's withdrawal from the Cheyenne Frontier Days (CFD) Rodeo in Cheyenne, WY, developments have been fast and heated. right, Steve Hindi addresses a packed room in Cheyenne. The story is front-page news at the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle (WTE), and the Cheyenne news station KGWN Channel 5 ran three newscasts on this issue. Showing just how scared and desperate the rodeo forces have become, the entertainment agency that works with CFD has filed suit against SHARK for educating performers about what really happens to animals at this rodeo. SHARK filmed the CFD Rodeo. Matchbox Twenty and Carrie Underwood watched animals brutalized on the footage from the CFD Rodeo. The performers cancelled their shows. The only people to blame for cancelled acts at CFD is the rodeo organizers themselves. When CFD stops abusing, injuring, and destroying animals, they will stop losing performers. Simple as that. But, since when do rodeo people "Cowboy Up" and take real responsibility for their actions? This lawsuit is a ludicrous attempt to stifle our freedom of speech, as the rodeo industry knows that the truth can only hurt them. They said yesterday that our tactics are "outrageous." What is outrageous is slamming baby animals down hard enough to break their backs. What is outrageous is deceptively shocking horses to make them buck uncontrollably for entertainment. What is outrageous is attempting to take away the very same constitutional rights from compassionate citizens that American soldiers are fighting and dying for overseas. This is a lawsuit that must be won for the animals. It goes to the very heart of animal protectors being able to speak for the voiceless. We hope animal supporters everywhere will see how crucial this is, and help out our new legal fund in any way possible.
