Please write letters to the Sierra Club and ask them where the mention of our meat consumption or abstinence from eating animals can help the environment is anywhere in their 'green' newsletter? Don't see it anywhere in their suggestions? They just do not get it or choose not to get it ..

Planes, Trains & Automobiles Are family vacations a thing of the past? With gas prices at or near $4 a gallon in some parts of the country, you certainly might think twice before planning a classic road trip. But would flying your family to Wally World really be better for the planet than piling into the family car? How much do you really know about the greenest way to get away?

Take our "How Green Is My Getaway?" quiz -- you might be surprised.

Quick, Let's Stop the Coal RushThere's still time to join the more than 29,000 people who have signed a petition opposing a new coal-fired power plant that Dominion Virginia Power wants to build in Southwest Virginia. Yes, this is the same part of our country that's being ravaged by mountaintop-removal mining -- and this plant would only make it worse. Though Dominion is billing the plant as "state-of-the-art," it's not carbon-capture compatible, would emit at least 50 times more mercury than similar plants do, and barely even meets the requirements of the Clean Air Act.

The petition will be delivered to Dominion on May 8 in Richmond -- just one day before the company's shareholder meeting in Chicago. This "mile-long petition" represents the efforts of several environmental and citizens groups, including the Sierra Club, to stop the rush to coal -- before it's too late. Please, add your name! Summer Inspirations? What books or movies help you kick off the summer months? Is there a classic book (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?) that gets you in the mood for the long days? Does an inspiring scene in an outdoorsy movie spell S-U-M-M-E-R for you?

What books or movies from your childhood -- great or not-so-great -- remind you of summertime? (Admit it, you still like Jaws.) How about books and movies that inspired your kids to want to jump up and hug a tree? Sierra magazine would like to know, so tell us your story.

Hispanic Voters on the Environment A newly released Sierra Club-sponsored poll shows that Hispanic voters are overwhelmingly concerned about energy, global warming, and environmental issues.

The first-ever national poll of Hispanics on environmental issues found that U.S. Hispanics, a growing and powerful demographic, are deeply connected to nature and are concerned about the environment enough to take action to protect their communities and their families.
