Just a few more days to go before what, for our

animals, is probably the most important decision the

Dallas City Council has ever made. This coming

Wednesday, they will vote on the new animal

ordinances. The breeders have been out in force and

have convinced some council members that spay and

neuter laws are not needed - and that the issue should

be tabled or that spay and neuter laws should be

delayed. That is why your assistance is so desperately

needed.

We were vastly outnumbered by the breeders at last

Wednesday's briefing. I can't tell you how important

your presence at this meeting is. Any questions? Call

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

 

1. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO: E-mail the

Dallas City council to tell them you SUPPORT the new

ordinances - and you want spay-neuter laws passed. The

2. If you are able to speak, we could still use

speakers for our list. We were blind-sided at the

briefing - the Breeders, basically, got open mike. We

don't want that to happen again. Lauren is collecting

the names of people who are willing to give a short (2

minute) speech in favor of the ordinance. We are not

sure that we'll all be needed - but we all need to be

prepared. If you will be there on Wednesday, and you

are willing to talk, e-mail your name, address and

phone number to Susan (soakey - and she

will forward the information to Lauren.)

 

3. Sign the on-line petition! (At the Animal

Advocates website.)

 

4. Pass out fliers. We can get you the PDF files, if

you are able to print some out - or we can arrange to

deliver fliers to you. Talk to your neighbors - tell

everyone to call and e-mail the council!

 

5. Help us make a big chain! We are getting the

signatures of friends and neighbors who SUPPORT the

new ordinance on strips of bright paper. On June 24th,

we will be assembling the strips into a long chain to

bring to our demo on June 25th. If you would like to

help gather signatures, you can simply cut paper

(preferably @ 11 inches long by one and one-half

inches wide), get a marker or sharpie, and ask people

to sign their names and city/state if they support the

new ordinance. (It is most effective if you do this

while giving them a flier, urging them to call or

e-mail the council.) You can call Susan Oakey

(214-577-6727) and she will arrange to get supplies to

you. We plan to meet on Tuesday, January 24th, 7:00,

at Susan's house in Oak Cliff to assemble our chain

and decide the best way to use it. E-mail her for

IT WILL TAKE THE EFFORTS OF EVERY ONE OF US IF WE ARE

TO DEFEAT THE BIG-MONEY BREEDERS. THIS IS DAVID VERSUS
